In one week, I'll be graduating from college! holy cow! I must admit, I'm completely sick and unimpressed by those who have been giving me grief about graduating "late." I don't think 4.5 years of college is all that bad. I did take a year off. GRR! I shouldn't have to justify myself (so cliche), but the comments and the weird looks kind of make me want to punch people. These have been the best years of my life, and I graduated by the date I gave myself... I'm pretty sure that's all that matters :)
Yesterday I gave some relationship advice to one of my guy co-workers, another one overheard and asked me for advice in his situation. ha. I love that I can help anyone through craziness or put them on the right path, but I have the most messed up relationships.
Deleting phone numbers out of my cell phone has been a great decision. Now I'm just wondering if I made the right decisions as to why those numbers went away. hmm. Too much of that has been on my mind lately.
Life is great, but it would be better if I had a job lined up.
Boston in 8 days :)

Time to switch it up.
My "hippie appreciation" course gave an assignment called The 32 Day Committment. Of course I failed to do it, but mostly because I didn't know what exactly I would want to -or could- committ to for 32 days. It's said that if you do something for 32 days, it becomes second nature. I lead a very hectic life, so working on one thing for 32 days would be pretty hard for me to conquer. Eh, well I enjoy a nice challenge, so I decided to do something for an entire year. At first, due to an interesting occurrence at my favorite restaurant in Ypsilanti, I was going to committ to something important to me, but superficial... but now I've decided to document everyday of my life through blogging.
In the past I've been a rather consistent blogger on Myspace, but in recent months I haven't wrote much of anything. I kind of think it would be neat to have my life written down... I do a lot of things and a lot of weird things happen to me. So, this could be cool, semi-interesting and entertaining, or completely lame. haha.
This is officially going to start on good ol' January 1, 2010.

Sorry, I've been lazy and busy.
Gosh, sorry I haven't updated in a while.
Things I've been doing since my last post: (not in order)
-Went to the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island 2 weekends ago. That was soooo awesome! Please check out my photos on facebook. well, check facebook for all my pics. Harvey Keitel was there! He's an actor if you were unaware... Be Cool, Finding Graceland, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs... I was pretty pumped about it. Other than seeing him, the parade was great! There were so many people dressed up and I had a hot dog at the original Nathan's :)
-Went to Central Park with my roomie, Tracy, to see a comedy show put on by Comedy Central. One of the comedians was Gabriel Iglesias. Hopefully you know who he is. It was such a great time! yay for awesome FREE events.
-My old pal from CMU, Evan, came out to see me too. He's the first person to come visit. Before he arrived, Tracy and I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion exhibit. Click HERE to check it out. It was all about models from the beginning until now. Each room was broken down into decades. The nineties one has Nirvana playing in the background. hehe. I enjoyed all the photos and garments they had on display the most.
When Evan got here, we went to dinner at a restaurant called Toast. My roomies and I were all exhausted from a lively Friday night, so we stayed local at night and went to The Heights for drinks. They have a pretty good happy hour. Drinks are SO expensive out here :(
Sunday, we walked around Soho, Chinatown, Little Italy, and East Village. I pretty much love the village. :) It was soooo good to see Evan. Hopefully he comes back before I head back to the mitten.
- hmm.. we go shopping/window shopping A LOT. hehe. we're girls, what do you expect?!
-We have roommate bonding nights a lot too. 2 weeks ago on a Tuesday, we bought a large jug of wine and just chilled out. My roommates are so great. I'm extremely thankful to have been shacked up them and not any weirdos.
-Blonde Sarah and I ventured down to Riverside Park 2 Sundays ago and watch 2 softball games simutaneously. We got very involved in the games and were cheering. haha.
-I've been off the island like 3 or 4 times to go to Brooklyn and Queens. I dig both a lot. Coney Island is at the tip of Brooklyn. I have yet to go to Staten Island or find where the heck Long Island is. ha.
-I bought a fabulous pair of Betsey shoes for --$16-- at Loehmann's on Saturday. How exciting is that?!?! Gosh, I'm lame. After Loehmann's and Urban, Dark haired Sarah and Juliana headed back to the apt and Blonde Sarah and I went exploring in Washington Sq. That area is amazing! I would totally live there. We found a really neat hole-in-the-wall bar and had a beer and fries. While just chillin', two guys started talking to us --who were NOT creepy! that's a first for me-- and ended up sharing a pitcher with us. We left there to go to The Heights, but it was lame there. We decided to head home and continue drinking until when walked passed her second job and they gave us half a pitcher of margarita :) So basically we drank for darn near free the entire night. SCORE! This was definitely an awesome night.
-Sunday Tracy got back from Delaware and B.Sarah, her, and I went to the park to lay out and girl talk about Tracy's crazy trip. FINALLY! a day with sunshine!!
-Friday night, we went out with Rob Humps. No, that is not his real last name, but it is part of it. haha. I got hit on by the 2 creepiest and most god awful looking guys... go figure!!! Rob Humps wouldn't act like he liked me to have the one creepster quick staring hard at me :( jerk!
-Monday's are our fun days! As of last Monday, it is now our ritual to go to Blockheads for margarita's and play guitar hero to win free shots. Last week we were horribly unsuccessful, but this week we all got a free shot. awesome!
--OOOOHH!!! Horrible-ness. Last Sunday, as in not 2 days ago, we had a LARGE fire alarm problem. It went off at 4:10 AM!! we were outside for nearly 40 mins on technically a Monday morning :( It then went off at 5:30 am and 7:30 am. It also went off when we all got home from work Monday night :( I'm never leaving my room again for a fire drill. We've had 7 fire drills in 3 weeks. Not cool.
-We had our first roach about 2 weeks ago. We also have a very large hole in the wall behind our front door due to extreme water damage. We've complained and sent pictures to people, but they've yet to fix it. The water damage was caused by a faulty fire hose hookup that is right outside of our apt. Apparently they can't fix our wall until the fire dept comes out and fixes the hose hookup. The promised it would be fixed the day we moved in... it's not been a month. what the heck?! The hole in the wall leads outside. Awesome. So and rodent or bug can get into our apt from the hole in the outside wall that's apart of the fire hose hookup and jump down and walk right through to hole in our wall :( We're not happy. Maintenance has finally come out to semi fix everything until the fire dept comes out and it just flooded our porch even more. Yesterday they CUT a new hole in our wall and failed to pick up all the dry wall pieces and tracked that crap all through our apt on our blackish/navy carpet. I paid over $3,000 to basically live in a shit hole. I thought this was an ivy league school that has big money and people pay big money to attend here. I'm so angry. At least we have AC. NYU dorms don't. Oh, I live at Columbia University if I never mentioned that.
-I SAW MICHAEL IAN BLACK!!! hehe. all i said was "Oh My God!" and i kept walking. This happened yesterday morning around 8:50 a.m. on 50th, between Broadway and 8th. I'm so mad at myself for not being a super fan.
-I did a on camera interview with MTV, so there's a good chance I'll be on tv next week. haha. I think D. Sarah and I did this on Friday.
I'm really having the best time ever out here. I wish all my pals were here to experience this with me. I've done so much and have seen so many crazy things. Not sure if I could live here though... it's WAY too dirty here. People just throw garbage any and everywhere. It's sad. I love living in the Upper West Side/ almost Harlem area. It's so beautiful and chill. Also, no tourist :)
My job is getting better and better. My co-workers are all really nice and are always down to have a good chat with about their job and the industry. I really hope this internship helps me out in the long run. There's no way I can be unemployed after December... I can't afford to not find a decent job in this industry. I'm feeling scared, yet confident about graduation, but I'm just going to live in the now until I get back to Mich and then I'll worry about finding a real job. :)
I miss everyone! Come visit! hehe.

My first weekend living in the city
Friday night:
After Sarah got home from her screening day at a local restaurant, we headed downtown to do some shopping/ looking around. Of course it had to be raining. It's been raining so much here :( The Sarah's and I went to Borders, Old Navy, K-mart (kind of weird to have one in NY), and Macy's. Just a mini shopping day. At Macy's they were holding the finals to a singing competition to win tickets to the Tony Awards. The people judging the awards were from In the Heights, a show one of the Sarah's and I are going to go see soon. That Macy's was a shit show. It was the one on 34th st. aww, how cute? hehe. I will not be going to that Macy's ever again, it was just too crowded with people. We ate at this amazing burger joint for dinner. It was so good and actually priced well. We headed home and I guess decided to have a party at our place.
Two people we've met this past week, Matt, who went to DMB with us, and Kate, who works with one of the Sarah's at NY1. A decent amount of roomies hung out too, so it was a great time. Thanks to Tracy, one of my roomies, we played a million drinking games. Needless to say, Saturday started off horribly. I woke up wasted. oops. So we didn't go running and we didn't have our wing eating contest either :(
Saturday!!:
I was a tad under the weather for most of the day. All my roommates, Tracy, Sarah, Sarah, and Juliana --with the exception of Becca, she was missing that day, all went to Century 21 down by the WTC. OMG! talk about designer overload! I may or may not have bought something fabulous made by Betsey. hehe. I'll be going back there again. After spending the better part of the day in that store, we headed home. Then it was time to watch the game! I was pretty sure Sarah was going to claw me every time the wings scored. silly, penguins fans. We also made new friends with Kevin, who was sitting in the courtyard. He came up to the lounge to watch the game with us, as did two other guys, Rob and Stefan. I think Kevin was impressed that 3 chicks asked him to watch sports and offered him beer :) Tracy had a bunch of pals come over, as did the Sarah's, so we were on our way to another crazy get together at our place, but thankfully we went to a pub. It was a great time :) Everyday out here has been really fun. I'm so glad I have really awesome/cool roommates.. even if a few of them are penguins fans.
Sunday:
I kind of chilled out for a few until Sarah came back from church. We then headed downtown to meet up with her pal, Kady, from college. After we found her and did a random trip to Old Navy, we headed to Queens, where Kady lives. She was going to the Tony Awards to be a seat filler. kind of sweet, right? So Sarah and I were lucky enough to help her get ready :) After that, we headed back home to have a group work outt session at the mini gym :)
I'll write about Monday later. It's time for sleep.

Second and Third day of work and other fun happenings
Wednesday, my second day at KC:
I did more button mashing on the computer all day. I did more entering purchase orders and also learned how see our year-to-date (ytd) on accessories and shoes we've been selling as a whole, but also by styles and colors. It was kind of neat. I basically had to look up info on a particular class, style, and/or color and enter it on excel on a distribution sheet. Nothing super exciting, but I kind of like being on the other side of retail. I especially like not having to deal with customers!
On Weds., all the interns received an email from HR about the KCR showroom needing a replacement footwear model for two important meetings next Tuesday. Samples are a size 6, and this little lady is definitely a size 6. If chosen, you obviously got to sit in on the meetings, but also got a free pair of shoes! So of course I went for it. I met up with the sales rep and tried on a bunch of shoes... which by the way were the most comfortable shoes ever. Then she told me she'd email me and let me know if they needed me. As I guessed, they ended up going with a professional model :( gah, why pay someone when you could've had me for free?! I figure it's because I have tattoos on my feet. oh well! It was still AWESOME to be considered for something like that.
Fun on Weds. night:
Two of my roommates and I went to the mini-gym in our building and worked out for a bit. There was already a guy in there running like mad on a treadmill. He was kind of my inspiration/competition while I was running. So after I complete a few miles, I was done. While I was stretching in the hallway, he definitely took it up more than a few gears. I really thought he was going to fly off of the treadmill into the glass that was in front of me. haha. We all ended up chatting for a few. It turns out he's training for a marathon. oh, man.
There are 3 other doors next to our apt and we have yet to meet anyone, so we decide to be social. I went in our apt to get a jacket and my roomies start beating on the door 2 over from us (a couple guys live there). It took forever for anyone to come to the door, but eventually we made 3 new friends. haha. We talked one of them into hanging out with us on Thursday night and Friday morning.
After chatting for a few, we went back inside and hung out with the rest of our roommates in the living room. I really lucked out. I have pretty great roommates... so far :)
Thursday, day 3 of work:
I did more of what I did on Tues and Weds, but I also learned how to create tables in our software. I definitely took 2 full pages of notes on how to do it too. I did more fill orders for the lady that's in charge of accessories. Gosh, I wrote all of what I did down, but I left my notebook at work. I'm catching on very quickly, so I'm really excited about that.
In a way, work is a bummer. It seems like none of the interns are fashion majors and that's really eating at me. I know I wouldn't have landed an internship in construction, that's not my area of expertise. I guess it's like I have enough people to compete with for a job, now I have all these non-majors, some of which have no clue about anything fashion other than getting a new designer handbag. I know fashion involves business, but I guess it never clicked in my brain that I'd be competing with non-majors until now. Life's not fair, but come on! Tomorrow I'm not going to wake up and want to be Donald Trump or on Wall St. haha. I suppose today I'm over it. O my though, someone asked me what my major was about and what I do. ugh.
Thursday fun!:
After I got home from work, 3 of my roommates, the boy from next door, and I went to The Pour House to watch the hockey game. I stuck around for a few, but then headed to the Hungarian bakery to meet up with Celeste. I must say that bakery is amazing!! I've walked passed it quite a few times, but knew it wasn't a good idea to go inside and look around. So, Celeste and I caught up on what's been going on since the runway show. I told her all about work and we chatted about my feelings with the non-majors. She really cheered me up. I think I was just having "one of those days." Celeste told me about her crazy fashion past and I'm even more impressed by her than before. She's had really great success so many times, I hope I can achieve greatness too one day. We also talked about how we both need creativity in our lives. I would love to do another internship in design or visual. I like my internship a lot, and I imagine it's only going to get better, but I need creativity and not so much business. This internship is definitely going to help me decide where I want to go with my career. Who knows, distribution might really be my calling, time will only tell.
Friday!:
I don't work Friday's, so one of my roommates, the neighbor guy, and I headed down to Rockefeller Center to see Dave Matthews Band play for the Today's Show summer concert series. We left our apt at 5 am. I wish it wouldn't have been raining. There was definitely some characters there. Some guy that looked like Andy Dick was saying all kinds of craziness and a girl told him to calm down. His response to the girl was "I can say whatever I want, this is America!" hahaha. Turns out the girls and her two friends were still wasted from last night. Boy, were those girls loud and more annoying than that guy. My favorite thing that guy said other than "this is America," was "reindeer!" He was swearing up a storm and then it dawned on him that children were around so he began saying "reindeer" instead.
We were behind the stage, so we didn't get to see much of anything. It was still really awesome to be there.
Not sure what I'm going to do with the rest of my day yet. Tomorrow we're going to do a 5K for Autism in Central Park :)
That's all for now.
xoxo.

That's all for now.
xoxo.

Life in the BIG Apple through my first day at KC
Moving in:
I moved into East Campus at Columbia University on Sunday, May 31. I definitely live with 5 other girls, none of which are fashion majors. I've never really lived with girls, so this summer should be rather interesting. Columbia's campus is beyond beautiful (pictures to come!). On move in day, my parents more or less unloaded my stuff into my dorm-ish apartment and left. haha.
Roommates:
I finally met my fifth roommate this evening. This happened after another roomie and I were walking back from to our apt from the subway right after I told her if I saw our other roomie I'd probably call the cops because I'd be thinking that she's trying to rob us or something haha. All my roommates seem really cool so far. I hang out with the two Sarah's the most. They go to college in Pittsburgh, so the Red Wings/ Penguins playoffs have been interesting to talk about. The Sarah's remind me of my girlfriends back in Michigan ::sad face::. So weird, none of my roommates are fashion majors. I was thinking that most of the people I was going to be living with would be fashion people.
Exploring:
Monday, June 1, I did lots of exploring. First I went to Central Park. I really think that place is unsafe no matter how bright it is outside. There's so many trails off the main paths in the woods. It's really creepy. I saw a large group of people painting in one corner of the park which was really neat to see. Then I went on the hunt to find Rite Aid. The walls of my room are so bare and disgusting that I had to do something about it. I ended up printing off a bunch of pics of the girls and I from home :) I miss them.
Some guy told me I had nice toes and that it means I take care of myself. HAHA. How do you respond to that?
I've found a lot of really great markets and fruit markets close to my apartment which is exciting. Yay for not having to put too much effort towards feeding myself.
After Rite Aid, I walked across town to get on the subway and head downtown to Times Square. Times Square is an utter nightmare. I'm so glad I live on the upper west side, it's just too crazy and tourist-filled down there. I did make sure to take lots of pictures to show all my pals. (I took a good picture for you, Kristal!) I walked around there for a bit and then decided to find where I'd be working. I don't work too far from Times Square, just a few blocks west. After finding KC, I looped back around to Times Square and saw a bunch of people sitting in lawn chairs all across Broadway. I still have no clue why. Like I said, it's pure madness down there. The streets were just covered with people.
First day on the job!!:
I SAW KENNETH COLE!!! He appeared to be in a meeting with some employees. How AWESOME is that?! Orientation was kind of cool. I really liked learning about all the other interns and where they're from. Quite a few of the girls are from NY or not too far away in Jersey.
My co-workers are all really cool. It was nice to finally put a face to a name of the girls I've been emailing with the past couple months. Everyone in my department, Distribution and Planning, are all rather young... or so they seem to be.
I work on "Intern Row." Intern row is a row of computers down a main hallway of the 2nd floor where a lot of interns are stationed at. Lucky for me, I actually work next to another girl who is also interning in the Distribution dept. Her and I got along great and chatted it up all day. Today I didn't do too much, I mostly did button mashing on my computer all day. For one task, I entered purchase order numbers for shoes into an excel spreadsheet for 3 new stores that are opening soon. Today was nice because I didn't feel overwhelmed. My coworkers were all very helpful and friendly, hopefully things stay that way if I start asking a million questions. The lady I'm working with is too cute. She's Dominican and I can barely understand what she says half the time and it's not because she's Dominican, she just speaks too quietly. She's in charge of the shoes! She had so many pairs of shoes on her desk, it was crazy. The other intern is working with the lady that deals with apparel.
Everything is going great in New York so far. I definitely recommend anyone that comes here to do one of the silly tourist bus tours. I learned so much about the city and got to see a lot of things, including parts of the garment district.
I probably left out some stuff, but it's time for bed.
